WHO we serve
People with intellectual, sensory, developmental or mental health challenges, senior citizens and those who do not have ready access to fine art materials and instruction, ages 6 - 106.
WHAT we provide
Our non-traditional programs echo the goal of Virginians for the Arts: "to best demonstrate the ability to enhance the community, lift our spirits, and build a better quality of life."
For both creative art explorations and living history programs, the school's uniqueness is in it's focus on PROCESS rather than PRODUCT, and placing self-expression, learning and joy above mastery of technique.
WHEN and WHERE
The expressive arts programs are offered at the studio or at your location.
15671 Ashbury Church Road
Purcellville, VA 20132
We provide our programs to those who are physically unable to visit the studio and to places where large groups are gathered upon request.

WHY...
.....is what we do "different?"
Directors/facilitators Darcy M.Swope and Trent Carbaugh have over 50 years of combined experience, expertise, research and commitment to their chosen fields as artists.
They share an approach to teaching that is non-threatening, gentle and supportive of individuality. They believe in multigenerational, multidisciplinary and all-inclusive programs whose goals are to enhance one's quality of life, strengthen awareness of self, others and one's surroundings, and promote healing.
"Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness.
It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As does the sun color flowers, so does art color life."
--John Lubbock, Sr.

STAR ARTIST
G., age 43, has been a private student at Birds of a Feather for 4 years. He has vision loss and developmental disabilities but has always dreamed of being an artist. His positive attitude, desire to learn and grow and his wry sense of humor make him a joy to be around.
CONGRATULATIONS, G.
and keep on painting!
